Does this mean I have a super power?
I am a woman who happened to be born on International Women’s Day. Does this mean I have a super power? I like to think so.
I am fortunate enough (although may not think so when they hit teenage age) to have two daughters and a very scruffy and mischievous female dog. My husband is very much outnumbered in our house (apart from the two male fish and gender unknown shrimp). I LOVE being female. Although it comes with its challenges – some monthly, some physical (after pushing two babies out). I am fully aware that I will slowly start to fall apart whereas my husband will grow old and get better with age like a fine wine. But is that society’s expectation influencing my thought? Grey hair on a man is sophisticated. Grey hair on a woman is still not something embraced in society, especially not when you are under 40, or even under 50.
This day is a wonderful day to celebrate my birthday but also achievements women have done, but more often than not we celebrate achievements from a business POV. I’m pretty proud of myself and what I have managed to achieve in the past two years since being made redundant. I now own my own business which is going from strength to strength and have managed to create a portfolio career that allows me flexibility to be there for my children, attend the school play, collect my eldest at normal school time three days a week, and enjoy the Easter hat parade at my youngest’s nursery. But what about those women who have achieved ‘out of business’?
I want to therefore take today to celebrate all women. Successful business women. Incredible mum women. Kind and generous women. Strong and independent women. Determined and resilient women. Funny and naughty women.
Being a woman is f**king brilliant!!
